Baycourt Community & Arts Centre, situated in the heart of downtown Tauranga, is the Bay of Plenty's premier performing arts facility. Designed to serve both the local community and international touring productions, the venue provides cutting-edge spaces for a diverse range of performances.

At the core of Baycourt is the Addison Theatre, a 500+ seat venue equipped with a bespoke orchestra pit and a world-class fly tower. To maintain its reputation for excellence, the venue continuously invests in top-tier technology, ensuring performers and audiences experience outstanding stage productions. 

As part of this commitment, Baycourt recently completed a major lighting upgrade with the support of Show Technology, focusing on enhancing its stage capabilities with a suite of cutting-edge PROLIGHTS fixtures, ensuring high-performance lighting solutions for its productions.

With a clear vision for the future, Baycourt has transitioned away from traditional incandescent fixtures, selecting a powerful combination of PROLIGHTS Astra Wash19Pix, Astra Wash7Pix, EclProfile CT+, and EclProfile FWVW to meet the evolving needs of its productions.

According to Dale Henderson, Technical and Operations Manager, the intention was to invest in high-quality equipment to enhance events and ensure a return on investment, given the limited number of suppliers in town.

In particular, 24 PROLIGHTS Astra Wash19Pix were purchased to illuminate the orchestra.

“We were after something that had more functionality than the old-style Fresnel,” commented Dale. “We wanted to be able to change colour and move the fixture. They are a great wash light, and the pixel ring is a bonus. They are also lightweight and small and help reduce our power consumption.”

Staying within the PROLIGHTS family, Dale added 30 PROLIGHTS Astra Wash7Pix fixtures to replace Quad Pars on the venue's ladders. He wanted a small-size fitting with high light output and a moving head. The choice was logical given the success of the Astra Wash19Pix, which has proven to be an excellent asset, according to Dale.

“They're fast, compact, and, like the Astra Wash19Pix, they have a good zoom range,” Dale remarked. “Both models are also quiet, which is important.”

As part of the transition from incandescent fixtures, Dale opted for LED profile lights, selecting 17 PROLIGHTS EclProfile CT+ and 10 EclProfile FWVW. Dale explained his choice: “We had a shootout between nine different fittings, and the EclProfile CT+ was our preferred fitting because it could easily provide the colors that suited our environment and the light output. Then we needed to replace the white front-of-house light fittings, and it made sense to stay within the same family and get the EclProfile FWVW.”

According to Dale, the PROLIGHTS EclProfile CT+ has incredible optics and delivers impressive colors, especially natural whites and saturated colors.

With this upgrade, Baycourt Community & Arts Centre continues to deliver high-quality productions, where PROLIGHTS solutions play a key role.
